My mission was to get my little one to her nanny in Ga. for her summer vacation.
Omg, what a ride. Twelve hours, over six hundred miles and smells that could raise the dead. What a freaking adventure.
So we took the poor man's transportation Greyhound Express Bus line. We boarded in Ft.Lauderdale, Fl with no muss or fuss easy going until. That one person who has to talk loud as hell in a different language which makes for extremely loud and boisterous conversation on her phone. Yeah for three hours off and on, all I could say was Jesus take the wheel and not let me go off.
When we arrived at the Orlando station for our transfer to Atlanta the only word that comes to my mind is yuck. The feel of that station is so grimy and dirty that all you want to do is find a 10 gallon bucket of bleach and wipe down every area you had to walk in.The armed security guards are ready to pounce at a moments notice, especially if you were someone that they weren't feeling.
After using the facilities which were 40% clean and waiting in grime. We got scrutinized by the armed security guards who must thought we were smuggling drugs on the bus in the way we were directed, and handled.
Then we boarded the bus, and were is the one place you don't want to sit. Yeah we ended up there because moms with young kids weren't really cared about, it was the survial of the fittest. So now that we are on only one row away from the bathroom....hooray, and a slight argument between two ladies we were off.
Now here is were it all goes from blah to WTF (Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot) as we all get settled into our seats. I hear the familiar rustling of snacks being opened, illumination from smart phones, tablets, IPads, and laptops and faint whispers of passengers talking before being put into a trance by the bus ride. Then it happened someone got up and used the bathroom on the bus...the stench that seeped throughout the last half of the bus was foul to say the least. Which was made worse when someone decided to spray perfume.
That in which set off my little one's allergies, and led to a 30-40 coughing and sneezing attack thanks for that, whom ever you were. Not to mention the heavy set man that was behind us who smelled like urine mixed with mildew. So I couldn't recline my seat, mind you I am 5'9" and I am all legs I couldn't even count the amount of times my right leg went dead from this last leg of our journey. And then it happened.
The most dead raising smell ever, menstrual fish. That right there took my stomach and nose to a place I haven't been in years. That smell wafted across the bus like it was the sweetest thing you ever known. When in all actuality your stomach is doing back flips trying not hurl up its contents, and your nose wants you to plunge it into a place of no more stench. So after wrapping my little one's face with a make shift medical mask as to prevent another allergy attack, and plunging my nose deep inside my jacket. I finally got to take cat naps here in there waking up either because my legs went dead or ode to menstrual fish wafted by turning my stomach yet again.
As early morning was approaching we made it to our first stop in Ga., yeah this place should be called "back ah bush" ( yardies you know I am saying). And luckily for me that's when my little one nedded to use the bathroom. As I walked in this dimly lit, corner store/rest stop/fried chicken place and given the once over by the locals and entered a two stall bathroom yeah good times.
We were back on the highway headed to Atl shawty after "back ah bush" stop and a stop in Macon. Early morning gave way to dawn, and my relief that we will in Atl in a few hours.
When we arrived in Atlanta bus terminal, it gave the feeling of Brownsville metroraial station in Miami. Yeah that type of grime mixed with please dont let anyone try to take my ish.
Thankful to have arrived in Atlanta safely but the smells could have stayed away.
Overall Greyhound Express Bus line fleet are great. Free Wi-Fi, electrical outlets to charge your devices, clean, leather seats, bug and critters free.
The staff of Greyhound are very helpful and I saw a few go out there way to help travelers get to their destinations.
But my thing is why the stations feel so nasty.
This was Afrikah's Perspective
Stay blessed
