Pipe Cleaner Up Do | Dreadlock Hairstyle| Afrikahs Perspective | #Blogmas2015

I am so loving the pipe cleaner bob I decided to see if I could take it another step further and create an up-do without any bobby pins. I know, I know, sounds crazy however, I made it work.

How did I do it, simply put all I did was tuck and roll my hair onto itself and it stayed in place.  First off I pushed all my hair to the front and attempted a basket weave going from back to front. Then I took the remaining hair and tucked it into the basket weave,
ultimately creating this hairstyle that you see here.  For a more polished look I could slick down the hair around my hair line. This is what I love about dreadlock
hairstyles that are versatile, this is the third hairstyle that I have done to my hair since putting the pipe cleaners in my hair.  With my locs wrapped around the pipe cleaners it gives the hairstyle interesting dimension almost giving the appearance of a tapered hair cut. And most certainly have folks asking who did your hair.
I will leave links below to my favorite dread lock blogges, YouTubers, IG the source of my dreadlock hairstyle inspiration.

The struggle is real | Dread Lock Hair style | Afrikahs Perspective | #Blogmas2015

The struggle is real for me to get my dreads in a cute bob hair style using pipe cleaners.  I have use pipe cleaners in the past and came out with awesome results.  However, I wanted to switch it up a little with the curl and to have a 5 for 1 deal when it came to styling my hair.

Attempt #1

I started out on freshly washed and my hair was damp so the curl
could be a little tighter. I did not put any styling products in my hair, only essential oils. Taking small sections of hair I wrapped my hair around the pipe cleaner and went on to the next section and ended up with what you see here.  It may look ok via the picture.  Do not
be fooled, the my hair started unraveling at the ends within a few hours. Which really frustrated me to no end.

I turned lemons into lemonade a styled my hair into an updo which was very cute and it allowed me to keep the pipe cleaners in for at least a week so that I could have some resemblance of a curl when I took them out.

THE TAKE DOWN ATTEMPT #1

I really liked the way my hair looked after taking out all of the pip cleaners. The shape of the bob ended up being A-symmetrical loved that as well. The curls lasted about 2-3 days which is I expected since I did not use any styling products to hold the curl in place for longer.

The only thing is that I wished that it the initial style with the pipe cleaners lasted longer.

ATTEMPT # 2

Here I go again a few months later trying the same hair style pipe cleaner bob.

Per usual my hair was freshly washed and moisturized and I went to work sectioning my hair and curling my hair with the

pipe cleaner. One thing that I did differently was to increase the amount of pipe cleaners from approximately 40 to 60+.

My reasoning for this is to keep my hair form unraveling so quickly. Well it kind of worked this time some hair unraveled instead of all the hair. Also, I was better able to manipulate the hair into the bob style that I wanted.

Additionally, with my hair in the pipe cleaners I can style in it different ways which I love. I experimented with one quick style and I did not need any bobby pins. I rolled the girl into flat twist tucking the lose ends into the twist. Then  I manipulated the rest of my hair to give that Farrah Faucet feel. It was a
little messy but you get the picture. The one important thing is the fact that this style lasts.

Faux Twist Take down | Transitioning dread loc hair styles | Dread loc Hair styles

So the time finally came for me to take down the "Faux Twist Out", it was fun but I got bored and wanted to see what styles I could come up with. The dreads will have some wave pattern to them giving me a lot of volume and texture.

Option 1: Simple Top Bun. I kept the flat twist from the "Faux Twist Out" to give an interesting twist on the look.

Option 2:  "Goddess Inspired" Twist. I kept some of the rope twist in on the sides and pulled out the rest from the back to create this look.

I could have done an up-do as well, or two french rolls , the possibilities are endless.  To see how I styled my hair into these looks  and how my hair look after the "Faux Twist" take down check out my latest video Art in the Street Wet n WIld Palette | Dread loc Hair styles

Dread loc Hairstyle | Crescent Roll Gone Wrong.

I recently had a event to attend and needed to turn  my locs from this free formed lion's mane to a groomed dread.

With no idea of what to do with my hair, I went searching on the internet for dread loc hairstyle inspiration, and still came up nothing so I decided to revamp a hairstyle that I did a while ago.

The crescent roll which I learned from watching +honeyroastedalmond dread loc hairstyle tutorial. As seen in
the picture to the right. A very simple hairstyle that only uses a head band and rubber bands. Perfect I thought for me to do again, so I thought.

I attempted that very same hairstyle again, and came up with a completely different result.  Reason being I started the flat twist to high up on and the head band was not black so it would not match my hair color.   So tweaked the hairstyle just enough to look like I meant to create this hairstyle.

I started on freshly washed and retwisted dreads. Starting the same way you would normally with a crescent roll. However when it came to the side of the chunky double twist, I rolled and tucked them onto themselves. Using bobby pins/hair pins to secure each twist into place.

And I ended up with this "Crescent Roll Gone Bad" dread loc hairstyle.

You can most certainly do this hairstyle on free form dreads, box braids, micro braids, sister locks. etc.

Pulled back, neat out the way, and most of importantly it looks good.
